This beautiful 1965 Maserati Mistral coupe recently received a comprehensive (and very expensive) mechanical restoration. The matching
numbers 3.7 liter engine was fully rebuilt by Vintage Autoworks in Atlanta. The Lucas fuel injection was sent to known expert Harm Klijn in the
Netherlands. Further work, such as rebuilding the brakes, was carried out by Northeast Foreign Car Service. The work was completed in 2015
and is fully documented with invoices totally over $91,000.
I recently performed an engine compression test and the results were excellent, as expected:
Cyl 1 180 psi
Cyl 2 180 psi
Cyl 3 175 psi
Cyl 4 177 psi
Cyl 5 180 psi
Cyl 6 180 psi
As can be seen on the photos the body, paint, chrome and undercarriage are in very good condition. I would rate the overall condition as a very
nice driver. Clutch and gearbox are in good working order. The exhaust is stainless steel.
The leather interior has been redone with new carpeting using the proper Maserati logoed heel pads.
The total production of these hand-built cars was only approximately 800 cars. The body is aluminum over a steel frame. They left the factory with
a sophisticated Lucas fuel injection system but unfortunately many Mistrals have been converted to carburetors since mechanics at that time did
not know how to deal with the fuel injection system. Today cars that still retain their original injections have become more desirable.
This is a good opportunity to acquire a car at a fraction of what it would cost to buy and restore one to this condition.
